Ancient Horse Sprue

  • $5.00
By popular demand, we are making our Ancient light cavalry horse sprue available as a separate item!

The sprue contains 3 left halves, 3 right halves, and 4 unique heads which are all interchangeable. From one sprue you can create 36 different poses!

This sprue does NOT include any saddles. We include the saddles on the rider sprues. These horses are currently used with our Celt Cavalry, Celt Chariots, Early Imperial Roman Cavalry, and Ancient German Cavalry sets...but the horses are appropriate for a wide range of ancient armies and/or any period with a little conversion work!

Other hobbyists have used the horses with conversion pieces from the Numidians to create Numidian cavalry and also Near East horse archers!

Please note these are not the massive modern horses we are used to - but the historically accurate hardy ponies used by armies of this period (it would take several centuries to breed the warhorses of later warrior cultures!)

I'm really glad that you guys put out the horse sprue as I can now double my celtic cavalry instead of having to choose either light or heavy. Maybe you guys could make a 2nd box set for a little more $$ w/ 20 horses. Still I'm happy that I can get a hold of the horses separatley now. Thanks

Yes, this is excellent! Now I can make Numidian cavalry men and use them as Rough Riders for my Light Infantry IG army.

These "ponies" would do for some of the horses for the Boers; many of their horses were Sotho ponies. There was a love of good horses, but many couldn't afford them- and in time of war, they used what they could get. Just as an idea for supplementing the Boers when you produce their horses.
