Looks like some very nice figs, and shows what wargames factory figures are like when painted first class. Thumbs up.

As if GW has original ideas of their own - HA!

Nothing like ripping off Alien, Star Wars, Blade Runner, and every other SF concept of the 60s, 70s, and 80s!

John O, Maybe its because people have been asking for greatcoat models for years and they dont seem to pay attention, and FW resin is too expensive/not forgiving enough for newbies to the hobby.

Personally i think their ace, looking forward to getting my hands on some of these bad boys.
Jolly-Roger commented on 16-Apr-2010 10:40 PM5 out of 5 stars
I'd hardly say they're GW rip-offs; they're a solid sci-fi trooper model, in my opinion. I love the look - it makes me think "Wehrmacht... IN SPAAAAACE!" ;D

GW Ripoff? I do believe "Zee Germans" made this look work first. Then nearly every other Sci-Fi nut out there took the look at made it their own. GW ripoff, my eye.
Ebsis commented on 16-Apr-2010 11:32 PM5 out of 5 stars
It is a Forge World rip off of death korps of krieg and I have no problem with it because GW and FW charge stupid over the top prices for their models and that is why people buy GW and FW rip offs. If you want to build a much cheaper death korps of krieg army this is the way to do it. Nice work people.

Utterly Awesome!
Now all some needs to do is give them SS or Splinter cammo? What Really good Idea. And a great price to boot?
Yes..... Great alternatives for GW Imperial, Inquisition Stormies as well as Kreig, but I prefer to see if there is a good rule set released for them VS Zombies. Well Done Wargames Factory, Now get back to making Long bowmen and Men at Arms!

I have been anticipating these since I first saw the concept render on Beasts of War. I hope you all go through with your thoughts of doing a "special weapon" sprue or maybe a true command unit. I know you don't want to rip anyone off but would be an added bonus. The "extra fun" is fun, couldn't believe it when saw it on BoW but it is great!

These look very good! Not sure I'll be starting an army of these soon, but I could see wanting to paint some of them up just for the heck of it, and maybe use for a skirmish type sci-fi game. Then who knows, maybe expand it into something larger.

The review by BoW shows they'll rank up decently with GW's stuff, and not as detailed as FW models, but the latter isn't surprising.

I'm impressed.

Done a lot of looking at this, and I agree with the guys at Beasts of War, the pistol is a bit off. I also have a problem with the lack of extra left arms. for more posability options. Im also really really not a fan of the grenade launcher or the flame thrower. The Solid torsos have me a little peeved too. On top of that though, Its an awesome model, with a good design and great detail. I might have been okay with losing half the heads from the sprue for one or two more arm options.

Really hoping to see some command and heavies to go with these.

Bill T commented on 28-Apr-2010 11:23 AM5 out of 5 stars
They were pretty fast actually. From what I read in the forums they did some early work in 2009, picked it back up at the end of the year, and didn't really start sculpting until January. So four months from sculpting to plastic is pretty good!
lorbaat commented on 28-Apr-2010 01:54 PM3 out of 5 stars
March 2009-May 2010 is 14 months, not 4.
Bill T commented on 28-Apr-2010 05:52 PM5 out of 5 stars
Hi lorbaat - your maths don't seem to be functioning.

I said they did some "concept" crap in early 2009 - they didn't actually start sculpting the final figures until January on 2010. So that's 4 months.

I'm REALLY excited actually, because GW takes about a year to do any plastics and these guys can get them out in a few months!
Lorbaat commented on 28-Apr-2010 06:32 PM3 out of 5 stars
Hi BillT,

Sorry, but it's your math that doesn't seem to be working (at least, not as well as your internet connection- which seems to allow you to read my comments and respond to them before the webmasters send them live).

The Liberty and Union League timeline on this very site states a start date of May 2009. They will be released next month. That's a year and 2 months. 12+2=14. Simple!
Inanyas commented on 30-Apr-2010 02:15 AM3 out of 5 stars
Lorbaat, he said four months from sculpting until production. Sculpting started in Jan 2010, certainly not Jan 2009.

"didn't really start sculpting until January. So four months from sculpting to plastic is pretty good!"

May 2009 would have been when someone submitted the idea, and probably not when they started sculpting.

"Simple!"

I don't think they are rip-offs. They are pretty nice models. If GW don't plan to do them then they really are fair game. Other companies make after market parts for your favourite car or Motorbike. This is no different.

Guys...of course they look like DKoK! If you create a soldier with great coat and some kind of helmet, you dont really have options. It'll have a great coat, a helmet, a gun, and thats about it. It's just natural, they all will look alike.
Josh commented on 15-May-2010 12:33 PM5 out of 5 stars

Other than the long coats I don't think they really look anything like the dkok (definately more Helghast in there). I may use them as alternative models for either shotgun vets or stormies in my IG army, but I mainly want them just because they look awesome :].

Just throwing out a new comparison, since Helghast, GW, and Wehrmacht have been mentioned many times. They resemble the shock troops from an anime called "Jin-Roh the Wolf Brigade." I'm not saying the other comparisons are moot...but it's what came to mind when I saw them. I think they are splendid and look forward to building some.

They can't use GW style Lasguns w/out some legal ramifications. Flamethrowers & grenade launchers could be used by any modern/near fut. or SciFi type military. Admittedly the majority of these will be used in GW games, but so do half the ancients WF sells, not everybody plays FOG. I allready have my colonial british done as praetorian guard but not so much that I cant have them double as colonials as they were intended.
Once again WF has given the gaming community what it wants ( see libery & union lists) @ an AFFORDABLE ( a word not in GW dictionary)Price! Plus no steep shipping costs to another continent ( sorry rest of the world). I can't wait to kitbash these w/ ancient & colonial brit heads or add the arms to colonial brits as well.

We always respond to every email we receive - usually within a few hours. If you emailed and didn't get something back, it might have been eaten by your spam folder. We've had that happen a couple times.

Thanks!

I can't believe all the fraking idiots calling these things GW rip offs. Yes yes, they look like the Death Korps of Krieg. Baw some more like a little kid please. The Death Korps are just a mix of World War I era German uniforms with a little bit of WWII knock-off gear and then given a lasgun. Besides, Sci-fi authors and imagining has used the Nazi design since the 50s. GW ripped off someone else who came 40 years earlier, then these people just took a great, well rounded idea and made it happen. So to all you GW fanatics, as much as I love my Cadian and Space Wolves armies....Go cut yer selves like an emo kid if you're going to whine about these looking like Death Korps.
Shaun Higton commented on 27-Jul-2010 10:27 AM3 out of 5 stars
Wolfprophet, as much as I say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, (within reason), that's no excuse to go around dissing emos! If you have a problem with people pointing out the bleeding obvious then I suggest that you may need some help. No offence intended but I have a few friends who describe themselves as emos, and I don't like people taking the proverbial out of them!
Nick commented on 29-Jul-2010 05:25 PM4 out of 5 stars

and on top of that, them nawtsees only ripped off their 'predecessors' the romans, in many, many, many ways.

Hazaa! Good point there on the Romans. That actually hadn't hit me right away since I haven't made a point of studying ancient warfare as much. :P I'll have to do just that so I'm not outdone by a more comprehensive historian. Muahahahaha.

Seriously though, I concur with several of the people here. Great looking models. I'll most likely be picking up a box just for the hell of it. If I don't find a use for them, I'll at least have something awesome to practice my painting skills on a little more(Ten years painting. Can never have too much practice. Lol) and turn into some pretty bookshelf display items.

Incidentally, I love the models. As a big fan of Killzone and its universe, I'm really stoked by the look of the models and needless to say, I will be ordering some in short order.

Bravo to the sculptors.

Also on the GW angle, I agree with the user above who said GW stuff is more derivative than people think. Not a bad thing at all though as it works very well and I have a wonderful collection of their stuff. I just don't really agree with the pricing of their stuff now I have a family, house etc.

Whether you like GW or not. Let's face it as a gamer, we are both looking for quality and affordability. What people should always realize as far as playing with it...it's whatever makes you happy. I know full well as a long time gamer...i get frustrated at how certain "companies" can state that a price for something is what it should be. Be glad that Warmgames Factory is an alterantive worth looking into. I for one applaud their ability to survive in such a niche market such as miniature gaming...

I've been looking for some good non-GW sci-fi miniatures for a long time, and now I've found it. I especially love the Cthulhu heads and any of the other less-than-human heads. Too bad these are the only sci-fi figures this company does at the moment.

I am planning on doing a bit of kitbashing and make them into a merc trencher/comando unit for Warmachine. Either that or add them to Khador or Cygnar comando units. Good work. I think these will do nicely with just a lil bit of TLC.

I wish they have a command and heavy weapon box set.

Picked up a box of them to see what they were like, and they've inspired me to run a Guard army. The shotguns took lasgun muzzles perfectly, to make hellguns, and nothing else needed changing. Pretty damn good, and the price is right!

GW rip offs... Ha that's a laugh! Yeah, because GW has given us such original races such as orcs... Wait I meant "orks", because their version is so much more original than tolkiens version. And necrons, straight outta an Arnold movie complete with We'll Be Back rules. And Japanese Anime aliens. And xenomorph aliens. And "Sly Marbo". I mean, seriously?

Anyway, the actual models are pretty solid, and priced competitively to boot. My only gripe was the mass shipping fiasco, but that has since been handled (and some of us angry gamers have been appeased with an extra sprue or two).

Good job, WGF. Every company goes through growing pains and hiccups, but I think you are well on the right track.

I like the looks of em. Wish they were a BIT cheaper but I like them. And as far as them being GW rip-offs... maybe so maybe no, does it matter? GW ripped off EVERY sci-fi movie & book that ever existed & then calls it their intellectual property & seeks to crush anyone that MIGHT violate that.

Question for you guys who purchased these already: do they look odd when standing next to standard Imperial Guard units? In other words:

How much of a height/scale difference do these 28mm models show when stacked next to standard GW 25mm?
Dennis commented on 17-Jan-2011 05:55 PM3 out of 5 stars
Simply awesome. Please expand this line.
1) Add some heavy-weapons teams would be great: tri-pod bulky heavy lasguns...er, sorry I meant "machine-guns" or large flame thrower units would be cool.
2) Other types of specialists would be cool: communications, snipers, command squads, scouts, or heavy/veteran units etc.
Commando commented on 20-Jan-2011 12:36 AM5 out of 5 stars
I had never seen your products prior to today... happened into a new store looking for something unrelated, and found these minis. Bought them on the spot, and started working with them right after work tonight.

I would put these on a par with anything GW is putting out right now. The scale is really close, and they make a great (and WAY more reasonable priced) alternative to 40K miniatures. Just for the fun of it, I mixed and matched a few Cadian bits and pieces- they work BRILLIANTLY together.

If management is reading this (and I don't know why they wouldn't) PLEASE continue with this line of minis. These are really well done, and are highly compatible with other lines available on the market.

I love them, and plan to outfit an army of them!

Absolutely James. While they are for our Alien Suns range of products the do fit in size-wise with GW's Imperial Guard. Currently there are 18-Alien Suns Shock Troopers in a box for $19.95 USD. Keep an eye out for our Alien Suns Shock Trooper Heavy Weapons Teams coming soon (which will include officers and specialist as well as weapons crews). WF

Awesome Product! Great models at an unbeatable price. I bought a bunch of them a few months ago for a 40k IG infantry blob army, and I'm impressed with how they came out. They also are the same scale as GW IG troopers, so feel free to go kit bash crazy with these guys!

The only two minor quibbles i have are that the built in bases on the troopers makes these guys a little bit taller than the GW infantry models, and these guys' helmets need to be trimmed before assembly so they don't look like they have giraffe necks. Honestly, that's nothing a hobby knife can't fix in under ten seconds.

Excellent models. I'm looking forward to seeing those heavy weapon/ officer kits.

@Chris - The first pass of the renders just came through and Kevin is doing tweaking on them now. We are working on getting out Spartans first (shooting for 30 in a box for $19.95), then Shock Troop Heavy Weapons (with command figures) and then start our
16th Century Samurai range. All of these should happen this quarter. WF

Got my models, cleaning and assembling them now. A few notes: injection points on the sprues are poorly chosen. No matter how much clipping and filing you do, it will not be as smooth as a clean surface. So the tops of the helmets, being one of the most
visible parts of the model on the table, is not a particularly good place to attach to the sprue. The supporting arms do not fit gracefully with the rifles, but they do fit. They fit fine with the shotguns. The heads don't fit the body without clipping a good
chunk from the neck, but that's a 5-minute job. The heads don't fit the standing body without narrowing the neck a bit, but again, a quick fix. Future directions: I would suggest fewer head options (14 heads per 3 figures is a little extreme), more gear options
(canteens, pouches, bayonets, suppressors, headset radios, binos, scopes, grenades, demo satchels, etc.) ..... that being said, they are still reasonably priced, and reasonably detailed, and I have every intention of purchasing more.
nitrokitty commented on 30-May-2011 04:34 PM4 out of 5 stars
Sure, they're GW ripoffs. WGF isn't even trying to hide the fact that these are made with the Imperial Guard in mind. But GW keeps upping their prices like there's no tomorrow, and if somebody else wants to come along and offer a similar product for significantly
less, well, then that's capitalism. From the beginning, I wanted my IG army to be a sci-fi greatcoat style army, and that means my options are either pay Forge World prices for Krieg, or come here. To me, that's an easy choice to make.

When are these going to start to be shipped with bases? Will that increase their price?
Wargames Factory commented on 26-Jun-2011 01:53 PM3 out of 5 stars
@Tommi - They aren't going to be shipped with bases; at least not in the near future. None of our current range of figures comes with bases. The Shock Troop Heavies will come with bases as well as the WSS Cavalry and all models going forward starting with
the new Samurai and new Apocalypse ranges and maybe even the Greek Heavy Infantry (we've not decided yet on that set). Once we get a feel for the cost (which will be minimal in terms of what 30-bases costs us to put in a box but could be anywhere from slight
to substantial in increased shipping due to added weight) then we'll discuss price increases. As for now, we're holding to our $19.95 price point and not putting bases in the current boxes.
Tommi commented on 27-Jun-2011 02:25 PM3 out of 5 stars
@Wargames Factory Thank you for the information. I am thinking of starting an IG army with these models and I am just trying to calculate the costs. Are you going to be publishing rules to use with your models or do you intend to use them as counts-as
in other games by the way? Do you approve of people using your models as counts-as in other games?
Wargames Factory commented on 27-Jun-2011 03:49 PM3 out of 5 stars
We're in the process of writing some rules for 1400-1900 (for our Samurai and WSS plus ACW and AWI); if those are successful we'll be putting our rules for modern/sci-fi (1901-2500-ish) and ancients (2500BC-1399AD). Once you pay for your models they become
YOUR models and you can do with them whatever you want; you have our blessing (not that you need it). Have a great summer!
