You don't really grasp the scope of these "pikemen" until you look at the pictures. These are not spearmen. These are pikemen to the max.

Bradley, those are nagae-yari, as in "extra long spears." They were the purview of the Ashigaru, and were in some cases as long as European pikes (used in a somewhat different fashion, as the ashigaru fought in looser formations than their European counterparts).
Frankly, they're darn near spot-on.

Are these bodies compatible with the Persian infantry heads?

Nagae-yare is long spear... Almoust as the european pike. Ashigaru were using these as well as the normal yari during the sengoku jida ( the contry at war) but the nagae-yari were not that regular in battle fields. Think these guys could be a great formation
against samurai cavalery... Have to get some

Potential to become cheap Easterlings? Definitely.

Nice figures, easy to assemble, little flash to clean, compatible with Perrys. Only con I have is lack of variety for left arms, besides that great, can't wait to paint them up and field them in battle. Great job wargames factory.

I really like this set. Sculpts are nice despite what some on TMP said. Take the source there. I just got 1 box of the Ashigaru Troops and as I said I really like them. The only way I would have given them 5 stars is if they were metal. I can't afford
metal so I have to do with plastic most of the time and these guys will be a nice add to my collection. I cant wait until they make Mounted Samurai, if they do... I will buy a lot of them as you just cant beat the price! Cheers Eric

More of a question than a comment... Would the ashigaru be carrying both long and short swords?? I thought the short sword was reserved for true samurai and not permitted for peasant (which the ashigaru were)? Other than that question, these are fantastic
figs and I wish I could justify buying some right now!
